1.  What is Oak Hills Youth Athletics?
Oak Hills Youth Athletics (OHYA) is an association dedicated to providing first class youth athletic programs to all students attending the Oak Hills Local School District.

 

2.  Who is on the OHYA Board?

3.  What are the guiding principles of OHYA?
a.  All players, coaches, officials, parents, and spectators will be treated fairly and with respect.
b.  Retention of athletes is a key measure of success.
c.  Players will be provided with the highest quality training and coaching that OHYA can supply.
d.  Input from coaches at the next level is critical in developing a progressive schedule of age appropriate fundamental skills.
e.  Players should be evaluated periodically to gauge our success in meeting targets for skills development. The results of these evaluations will be shared with both the player and the parent.
f.  Parents play an extremely important role in the development of young athletes.  
g.  All activities and actions sanctioned by OHYA will be conducted in an open and transparent manner.  
h.  OHYA will openly accept criticism and complaints, and will effectively and fairly resolve these issues consistent with our Mission Statement.
i.  OHYA has a goal of continuous improvement.  As deviations from our mission are noted, we will look for the underlying problem and make the necessary adjustments to ensure that we are living up to the standards and goals of our Mission Statement.  

 

4.  Does OHYA run each sport?
No, each sport within OHYA has it's own individual sport coordinator and a committee with 3-11 members.  It is these coordinators and committees that will run each individual sport.  However, they are expected to govern their sport within the framework of the guiding principles established by the OHYA Executive Board.  

 

5.  Can I volunteer?
Absolutely! Every sport is always looking for coaches, assistant coaches other volunteer positions on the committees.  Please click on the Volunteer link and email your interest to OHYA.  You will receive a response from someone within our organization.  

 

6.  Is the Athletic Director of OHYA a paid position?  
Yes. Starting in the Fiscal year 2017-18 the Athletic Director position is a paid position. The Athletic Director position requires numerous professional skills as well as a large amount of dedicated hours to our organization. The time and infrastructure that needed  to run a first class organization is very time consuming and requires the position to be paid.   

 

7.  Who is responsible for the website content?
Our website software is called Sports Engine by TST Media.  The Athletic Director makes general updates.  Each sport will be responsible for updating and maintaining their sport specific web pages.

 

8.  Is OHYA a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization?
Yes, OHYA is an Ohio nonprofit corporation.  OHYA filed an application for recognition as a 501(c)3 organization with the IRS in April 2012.  The application has been approved.

 

9.  Is OHYA part of the Oak Hills Local School District?
OHYA is not run, nor funded by the Oak Hills Local School District, however, we are closely affiliated with the Oak Hills Athletic Department and Oak Hills Athletic Booster with support from the Athletic Director and varsity coaches.

 

10.  Why one big youth sports organization instead of smaller groups?
The Oak Hills community had 15 different sports programs prior to the inception of OHYA.  Our goal has been to consolidate these groups in order to gain advantages for our student athletes.  

Those advantages include:

  • Centralized Administrative Functions
    • Registration consolidation
    • Accounting / Tax Services
    • Website consolidation / training
  • A single easy to use website for all sports and parents
  • Utilization and coordination of Oak Hills Facilities
  • Better educated parents as coaches for multiple sports
  • Consistent message to the community
  • High School coach accessibility to youth sports
  • Expense reduction for individual sports
    • Insurance, website, CPA, background checks, storage etc.

 

11.  How many sports are currently working with OHYA?

OHYA currently offers 11 sports.  The sports that are actively competing as a part of OHYA are:  Baseball, Basketball, Bowling, Lacrosse, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Tennis, Track & Field, Volleyball, and Wrestling.
